Squatting My Way to a Guinness World Record
Transforming Health Through Commitment
My fitness journey began in 2017 when I made a pivotal decision to transform my health. This personal transformation led to the birth of my venture, “Healthy with Aparna.” Through my work with clients, I noticed a common theme—many were hesitant about squats. Despite their incredible benefits, this essential exercise was often met with resistance. Determined to change this mindset, I recognised that squats could be a game-changer for many.
Sparking a Global Movement: The 100 Squats Challenge
In 2021, I launched a free online 100 squats challenge that would ignite a global movement. What started as a local initiative quickly reached individuals worldwide, inspiring them to embrace fitness and the power of commitment. The overwhelming response encouraged me to create various courses promoting holistic wellness and healthy living, expanding my mission to inspire others to lead healthier lives.
A Bold New Challenge: Breaking the Guinness World Record
Fast forward to Feb 2024, while performing squats in the gym, an idea struck me: Could I elevate this initiative even further? The thought of breaking the Guinness World Record for the most squats in one minute (female) began to take shape. This challenge was not merely personal; it was about proving that belief in oneself can lead to extraordinary achievements.
I sought advice from previous record holders, who generously shared their insights and encouragement. Social media became a powerful ally, helping me connect with incredible supporters who believed in my mission.
A Tribute to My Mother: Timing and Support
To add even deeper significance to my record attempt, I chose July—my mother’s 60th birthday month—as the perfect time to make my mark. This tribute celebrated her unwavering strength throughout my life. My husband played an instrumental role, rallying witnesses, timekeepers, and camera crews to ensure everything went smoothly. I was overwhelmed by the generosity of people willing to assist, especially Amit and his amazing team from , REVL Singapore.
Training with Intent: Aligning with My Menstrual Cycle
Even during a family holiday in Japan, I remained committed to my training. What truly set this journey apart was my holistic approach: I planned my diet, workouts, and meditative practices according to my menstrual cycle. By aligning with my body’s natural rhythms, I maximized my energy during peak phases and allowed for recovery during slower ones. This strategy made all the difference.
Overcoming Challenges on Record Attempt Day
After returning from Japan, I conducted a studio trial run to prepare for my final attempt. However, the day of the record attempt presented challenges, technical issues forced me to reattempt the squats, adding intensity to the process. Nevertheless, I remained determined to succeed.
Weeks later, I achieved my goal: I became an official Guinness World Record holder, completing 78 squats in one minute!
Lessons Learned: The Power of Support and Alignment
This journey taught me a profound lesson—surrounding yourself with the right people, maintaining pure intentions, fostering a positive mindset, and practicing consistency can help you achieve anything. Aligning my efforts with my menstrual cycle played a crucial role in this accomplishment.
I firmly believe that when you create a supportive environment and distance yourself from energy drainers, the universe aligns to help you reach your goals.
Empowering Women: Trust Your Inner Cycle
To all the women out there—listen to your body, trust the wisdom of your inner cycle, and embrace its power. When you align with yourself, the possibilities are limitless. Your potential is boundless!
